The mission of the College of Education is the preparation of professional educators and allied practitioners, including professionals in business information systems, counseling, electronic media, and librarianship. Significant to this mission is a strong commitment to three important related areas, all of which are realized through partnerships and other endeavors. These three areas are:
1. the encouragement and nurturing of professional growth for educators and allied practitioners at all levels and in all areas of the educational endeavor;

ARRRGH...You Gonna Get Involved?! This is your first stop for getting involved on campus.

The Department of Student Engagement houses Fraternity and Sorority Life office, the Student Organization Center, major campus programming, and the Student Activities Board, providing advising, support, leadership development, and resources to over 35 fraternities and sororities and more than 350+ registered student organizations.

Fraternities and sororities provide an enriching student experience focused on the pillars of leadership, scholarship, community service, sisterhood, and brotherhood. Membership in a fraternity or sorority is life-long and provides connections long after graduation.

Student organizations provide almost limitless opportunities for students to build connections on campus. We encourage students to become involved in student organizations to enhance their learning and add co-curricular experiences to their classroom work.

The Student Activities Board plans over 100 programs each year to educate and entertain the students of ECU.

Our staff encourages all students to explore the many different student groups at ECU and take advantage of the opportunities these organizations provide.

DESO was organized to provide a community and connection to the ECU main campus for DE (distance education) students by giving the DE population a collective voice and opportunity to meet other DE students. The mission of the ECU Purple Pantry is to decrease food insecurity among the students of East Carolina University and increase access to other personal care items. Since opening in the late spring of 2018, students have been able to collect their most needed food and hygiene items. Members of the ECU community dedicate their time, talent and treasures to create a sustainable resource on campus to combat food insecurity.

The mission of Student Media is to engage East Carolina University students in comprehensive vocational training that integrates classroom instruction with real-world internship experience modeled after professional media operations. Student Media also provides the university community with a written and oral historical record of life on campus as well as news, information, literary and artistic expression and general entertainment within a designated limited forum for the exchange of ideas.

Pirate Media 1 provides students with experience in reporting, writing, editing, graphic design, production, management, photography, videography, radio programming, sales, marketing, social media and web production. It also prepares students for any career choice through the development of skills in areas such as communication, teamwork, time management, problem-solving and conflict resolution. Upon completing training and joining staff, students receive a monthly stipend for their work. Students who are staff members of Pirate Media 1 for at least one year may also earn internship credit hours depending on their program.

The Office of Global Affairs houses Education Abroad where all your study abroad questions can be answered. Learn what opportunities are available for you to study abroad or engage with the international community on campus.

LEARN:
Don't know where to begin? Join us for a Study Abroad 101 information session held every Tuesday and Wednesday at 4:00pm at the International House while classes are in session. We also have a Canvas course available for those of you with time conflicts.

These sessions cover the various program types available through ECU, how to research programs that fit your priorities, scholarships and financial aid, and provide you the opportunity to speak directly with an Education Abroad Advisor as well as fellow Pirates that have studied abroad before!

MEET:
Once you have completed a Study Abroad 101, you can meet one-on-one with a study abroad advisor. Set up an appointment with an Education Abroad Coordinator to go more in depth about your options and questions.

2023-2024 Announcement - Funding

This portal is for currently registered student organization treasurers who fall under the SGA funding process.

The portal is currently OPEN.

All Appropriation’s funding requests must be submitted by:
- Funding requests for the 2023-2024 academic year will only be considered between August 28th, 2023, through March 12th, 2024 (30 business days before the end of spring semester classes).

***All requests need to be submitted 45 BUSINESS DAYS before the date funds are needed
- Business day: when both students and staff are required to be on campus. In general, 45 business days can be considered 9 weeks’ worth of workdays (Monday-Friday).

- Weekends, holiday breaks, and state holidays do not count towards the 45 business days. Unforeseen university closings will not be penalized against the application.


Once the request has been submitted, the SGA Treasurer will review your funding request; after reviewing, an invitation will be sent via email for a hearing.


Makeup Funding Session 2023 will be announced at a later date.
